[Camarilla-announce] [Masquerade] List Creation: Masquerade-OOC

February 7th, 2010 by g1eagle

Members,

I have asked and been granted the creation of the Masquerade-OOC list.
This list will be the primary discussion point and announcement
vector for all things relating to the Masquerade Chronicle.

http://cammail.white-wolf.com/mailman/listinfo/masquerade-ooc

This list is also important because all discussion and questions asked
of the Masquerade Staff will only be answered from this list (please
see the AMST Masquerade Policies:

http://wiki.white-wolf.com/camwiki/index.php?title=AMST_Masquerade_Policies).

This is to ensure that all members receive a consistent and fair
understanding of the Global Masquerade expectations.

Please note, any communication from any of the Global Staff regarding
Masquerade that is not in direct email, on the official wiki or on
this list is their opinion only and does not carry any additional
meaning beyond an opinion given a general member.

[Camarilla-announce] [Masquerade] Setting Announcement & Project Manifold

February 7th, 2010 by g1eagle

Members,

Greetings once again. As you might have been able to tell, the Global
and National Masquerade teams have been working feverishly to provide
you with the very best Masquerade setting that is offered anywhere.
There are a great number of considerations to be made, such as how the
club has changed since our last experience with Masquerade, how we can
make sure new members can be started with a minimum of hassle, and,
most importantly, what our members are looking for in a Masquerade
chronicle.

In order to address all of these, the team has decided that the
setting will be the one presented as the 3.0/Revised books were
released. Many of the epic events, such as the destruction of the
Tremere Antitribu, the Maelstrom, the Gangrel walk-out, and the
Assamite civil war have already happened or are in progress. We
wanted to mirror as much of this world as possible instead of writing
our own because we heard clearly that the members wanted to pick up
the book and play what was presented there, not what was written by a
Camarilla officer. This also allows the chronicle to be as accessible
to new members as possible.

There will be three types of Venue Style Sheets, Independent, Sabbat,
and Camarilla/Anarch. When you create a character, you will assign
the character to one of these Venue Style Sheet Types. We have also
done away with the concept of Primary or Secondary characters and
decided that players may have a maximum of three Masquerade characters
at one time, regardless of Venue Style Sheet type.

I know everyone is ready to make characters and is dying for the rules
to be created, but I ask for just a little more patience on that
front. I wanted to released a semi-completed rules set at the end of
January to allow that process to start, but no matter how I sliced out
portions of the semi-completed addenda it was the same: a tenth of the
needed rules that were likely to change.

The great news is that the Global and National teams have not only
committed to a single rules set (meaning a single place to look and
find all the rules you will need!) but I believe we will have a gold
release within the next two weeks. This means that the rules, as a
whole, will be available on the 21st of February. This may change
before we get started based on your feedback, but these will be the
rules you can use to get an idea of the process needed to ensure your
concept is ready for play at chronicle start.

With that in mind, I want to initiate the largest and most aggressive
true bottom-up ST project in the club: Project Manifold.

What this means is that I want everyone who is planning, thinking, or
dreaming of playing the Masquerade chronicle to take a moment and ask
themselves: What kind of story am I trying to tell with this
character?” Write down your ideas, making sure to detail what will be
needed to express your character’s story. Be clear – your ST staff
cannot know what you want unless you tell us! Write no more than a
page (double spaced, 12 pt font, you lawyers!) per character and
submit the manifold report to your VST (if you have one, or DST if you
do not).

Let me be clear here – this is not a method of direct feedback or a
project intended to shape the global chronicle as a whole – it is
intended to give your ST staff a clear picture of the sort of themes
and elements that their players would like for their own character in
their local game. There should be little to no detail about approvals
in these reports, they should simply be the sort of story you hope to
express with your character.

The local ST staff will review these submissions and find the
similarities. Where there are similar elements, they will note,
aggregate and submit their own 1-2 page report on their findings and
the list of players/characters that have been submitted.

On the Regional level, the same thing will be done. The Regional ST
staff will look for similarities, aggregate, and submit their 3-4 page
report. The same will occur on the National level and their report
will be submitted to the Global Staff.

When this is finished, the Global Staff will review and incorporate as
many of these elements as possible, then give that completed setting
to the National teams who will do the same, handing the project back
to the Regional teams. This will continue back to the local level
where, with the setting and the original submission, the local ST has
a fantastic head start on what to write and the world the set it in
for the three year chronicle.

Here’s the kicker – for every character you submit to this project
(maximum of three), you will get an additional 10 XP to spend on that
character. Your report must make it all the way to the Global staff,
however. If you submit a report and your RST submits nothing – then
no one in that region can receive the XP. If your NST submits
nothing, then no one in that nation. Make sure your officers report
when/if they complete their tasks!

The initial phase of Project Manifold will last until March 15th. Each
phase thereafter will last 30 days, meaning the V/DST will have
until April 15th to get their reports to the RST, who will have until
the May 15th to submit to the NST.

Thank you all for sharing in my and my team’s excitement for this
returning genre.

Members,

In preparation for the upcoming Masquerade venue, I am very happy to
announce that our friends at CCP and DriveThru RPG have set up a
fantastic offer for Camarilla members.

There are three packages that we can take advantage of:

Now, I am sure you will agree that the discount on these are, frankly,
absurdly low.

What is even more awesome is that by using the coupon code

[Camarilla-announce] ALL CALL – AMST DPoM

January 20th, 2010 by g1eagle

Members,

I would like to thank Derek Burrow for his time as AMST DPoM. Grad
school is a rough thing and it’s taking him away from our team (which
makes us all sad). However, real life always comes first and in this
case, we’re losing Derek to a good thing. Having said that, I am now
accepting applications for the AMST Dark Places on the Map position.

Job Description

The AMST Dark Places on the Map (DPotM) has responsibility for
ensuring that character history and in-chronicle activity in areas
other than official Camarilla affiliates or GIR are effectively
logged. In addition, they are responsible for maintaining an extensive
archive of information regarding “Dark Place” locations – including
ensuring that two players with overlapping character backgrounds are
put in touch, aiding with character background development, noting the
IC setup of various DPotM cities and locations, supporting venue
AMSTs, and helping players interact with “Dark Places” as easily and
productively as they might with their own VST.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Development and maintenance of the Dark Place Wiki logging
historical and current chronicle events, plot links and personalities,
both PC and NPC, in all venues.
- Assisting players in development of character backgrounds including:
providing or confirming definition of Dark Place locations and IC
structures and facilitating PC ties based on geographical proximity.
- Acting in a “DST” type role for Dark Places, ensuring that IC events
proposed and run by venue AMSTs do not clash or otherwise threaten to
cause significant cross venue or real world difficulties.
- Ensuring that players (in terms of relevant IC knowledge) and venue
AMSTs (in terms of overall background and history) are fully prepared
for Dark Place based proxies.
- From time to time at venue AMST request to run proxies to Dark Place
locations.
- To provide global, national and regional storytelling staff relevant
information regarding “border” events or other issues of note.
- Strong organizational skills
- Storytelling experience
- Reliable email and 48hr response turnaround
- Ability to work with members and Storytellers at all levels of the
organization

The Dark Places Wiki is intended to be a detailed and
information-heavy tool and the AMST DPotM must be well prepared to
continue to develop and administer it as a central part of their role.
The AMST DPotM must be prepared for the fact that the role is
primarily an administration focus rather than storytelling, which is
the primary remit of venue AMSTs.

The hiring process will consist of two stages. The first step is the
basic application, which should be sent to Michelle Webb
(camarilla.mst at gmail.com) and Lesley Packel (amst.admin at
gmail.com) by 11:59 GMT, January 30th, and should include the
following:

*Name, Cam #, contact info
*Coordinator & local ST contact info
*Vision statement
*Proposed 6 month work plan
*Camarilla and relevant real life resume
*Three to five references (excluding NSTs, or Global officers, as
these will be asked for feedback separately)
*List of any disciplinary actions received in the last 2 years

The second stage involves an initial set of questions which will help
me decide the short list and a phone interview if necessary after
that.

Best of luck to everyone!

If your is a Cahalith planning on attending game, you’re encouraged to arrive in advance and PM the VST for possibly important details.

GIRC Domain Checkin Policy: The 48 hour rule was lifted. Given that GIRC is an online game, and the ease of attending is therefore much higher than a game you would have to physically travel to OOC, we understand the desire of the Camarilla membership to have the freedom to attend games on short notice. GIRC welcomes all visitors, but ask that when you travel to the GIRC game you copy your storyteller on the e-mail with your sheet and travel arrangements. The ST staff retains the right to refuse check-in once game has started, or to delay the check in of any player who arrives after game start until such a time as checking in the player will not cause a disruption to the flow of the game. If the GIRC staff finds at any point that your character would have been unable to attend the game (due to time freeze, proxy issues, or any other reason) your XP for the game will be withdrawn and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.

*No* proxies are considered soft RP Only. There is always a risk involved. If you send proxies to any other account besides the one listed above they WILL NOT be accepted.

GIRC Storytellers reserve the right to refuse any proxy or PC into the game and reserve the right to ask you not to use powers that may be unbalancing to game play. The Venue Storytellers and GIRC Coordinator personnel reserve the right to deal with player disruptions properly and accordingly. Players who cause overly large problems or disruptions may find their experience point rewards reduced or eliminated, their PCs kicked from the game, and the issue referred to the appropriate coordinator chain for resolution.

Greek is the default language of the GIRC Athens game. If your character is speaking a language besides Greek, please indicate that in your nickname on IRC as either John_Smith[Eng] or <John Smith> *Eng* “Hello, my name is John Smith.” If you’re not doing this, then it is assumed that your PC is speaking Greek while the player continues typing what is said in English.

All nicks and tags attached to nicknames are to be left up to the VST in charge of the Game/Scene. If you have any problems with a tag, please raise it with the VST and VST alone. There will be No open arguments or discussions in the Channel about this. Whether intentional or unintentional, it causes stress & problems. Don’t do it in #girc-ooc.

Please be kind to your fellow players who use alternate software settings or hardware to overcome visual challenges. Do not override default settings and force black to be the text color for the words that you type in when using IRC. This is GIRC Policy and reserved for the Storytellers’ use during game time.

Two updates from the MST and AMST

January 9th, 2010 by g1eagle

So the MST announced the new AMST Masquerade.

His words have outraged many members that don’t feel communication is a primary goal.

He wants you to check the wiki and ask the local folks first. First off unlike my readers who’s to say you have internet access? I don’t recall the hand book requiring it. But then if you don’t have internet access you can’t really email him any way right? Funny that.

If a question is posted to an open list or sent directly to any member of the AMST Masquerade office that could be very easily answered by any of these resources then it will not be answered by any
member of the office.

Alright if it takes you a couple minutes to answer it why not answer it?

This is not because we have any less desire to
help, but our time is much better used providing quality tools and
resources for all members.

But it sounds like you don’t want to help..

If I have heard one thing loud and clear, it is that members are
excited for Masquerade, not Gehenna, nor the Year of Fire. For this
reason, we will not be setting the venues in a post-Gehenna setting.
There is so much revision that would need to be done to the rules and
settings that would warp the genre away from what the members want.

This I find excellent news! Pre Gehenna is a good thing that and honestly I hated the year of fire, the plots where horrible and the ending lacked climax.

There will be cities utterly decimated and controlled
by the Sword of Caine, and vast bastions of the Camarilla.

So keeping the venues of cam-anarch and sabat separate are out the window? for years we heard that they aren’t fit to be together in the world venue and must be separated.. but now that’s changed? what about those who want to play both? do they need to VSS? or one VSS but different games or we just going to through them all together and expect them to play nice?

Lastly I also have issues with

If you have a suggestion, proposal, or similar email to the AMST
Masquerade, please understand that your wishes are one of a great many
that are going to be submitted. By submitting your proposal, you agree
to the following submission guidelines: http://wiki.white-wolf.com/camwiki/index.php?title=Submission_Guidelines

If we accept your proposal, we will work with you into incorporating your idea into the setting. If your proposal is not accepted, do not be discouraged. We appreciate your suggestions, but there’s only so much time and energy available for developing the genre. Keep sending us your ideas; hopefully you’ll send us one that sticks. Good luck!

This just screams to me, go ahead and send it to us. We might just ignore you thou, where not going to respond with received or anything to let you know we even looked at it. I know there very busy and have there own lives but they should at least make the submission down to one paragraph and look at every one of them. Bad submissions they could post to the wiki or a simple email saying thank you but it doesn’t fit at this time.

Alright my rant’s done, feel free to comment!

[Camarilla-announce] A message from the AMST Masquerade

January 9th, 2010 by g1eagle

Members,

I would like to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. My name is
David, and I have been an ST in one form or another for a few years
now in the Camarilla. As you might have seen, I have taken the
responsibility of conducting a grand resurrection – the recreation of
the Masquerade venue in the Camarilla.

I wanted to take a moment not only to introduce myself, but to share a
small glimpse of what I have planned to share with you all, and to
establish a few policies that will make sure I can fulfill my vision -
to provide the very best experience for the Camarilla Masquerade
players.

In order to fulfill that vision, I need to set a few guidelines that
will help me met my goals and help you be part of the process of
making the greatest game possible. The time of myself and my staff is
best used creating setting, providing guidance, and assisting your ST
staff. What we cannot do is get mired in the minutia, various proxies,
and arguments about individual rules.

To that end, I have the following policies:

1. I can not and will not endlessly explain/defend every decision I
make. This is not to say that the members do not deserve the “why’s”
behind a decision, nor will they be denied that information, but I
cannot spend all day debating the minutia of my office with all the
members.

2. If you have a suggestion, proposal, or similar email to the AMST
Masquerade, please understand that your wishes are one of a great many
that are going to be submitted. By submitting your proposal, you agree
to the following submission guidelines:

http://wiki.white-wolf.com/camwiki/index.php?title=Submission_Guidelines

3. It is expected that members check the Camarilla wiki and ask their
local resources (ST, Coordinator, other members) before asking a
question. If a question is posted to an open list or sent directly to
any member of the AMST Masquerade office that could be very easily
answered by any of these resources then it will not be answered by any
member of the office. This is not because we have any less desire to
help, but our time is much better used providing quality tools and
resources for all members.

I have seen quite a lot of excitement about the Masquerade venues
returning, and I want to share a little bit about what you can expect
to keep that excitement high.

That informs the question – what about Gehenna? Well, the looming
sense of Gehenna is one of the important aspects about the setting
that eliminating or even fully realizing changes things drastically
about the venues. There will definitely be elements of Gehenna, such
as Goratrix’s ritual, the Madness network backlash, and the Maelstrom
present, but, as noted before, there will be no massively meta setting
such as the Year of Fire.

The next big question – who is winning? Well, many of these details
will be decided by you through Project: Manifold, but the main idea is
that no one is. There will be cities utterly decimated and controlled
by the Sword of Caine, and vast bastions of the Camarilla. This
back-and-forth is another setting element that is necessary to
establish (at least initially!) the theme and mood of the setting. You
simply cannot match the brutal fury of a Sabbat pack, but it is just
as impossible to stand up to the crushing might of the Ivory Tower.

Project Manifold is a whole new initiative I am going to be using – a
true opportunity for your character to shape the very foundation of
the setting. The basic idea is that players take the time to briefly
(think no more than a single spaced page) detail the setting they
would like to see and what the story they would like to tell with
their character. The VST then takes these, finds commonalities, and
sends the grouping along with their notations to the DST. The DST then
does the same for all venues within the domain and sends it to the
RST. This continues onward all the way to the Global level, where the
groupings will have become less individual and more broad strokes of
setting and common elements. My office then incorporates these
elements into the setting and works to provide the story hooks needed
to fulfill these broad story aspects. This is done again on the
national level, focusing more on the setting and theme for that
nation. Then again all the way back down to the local level where the
local game is built within the framework given by the Global,
National, Region, and Domain storytellers. More details and deadlines
are coming soon – but I was very excited to share this new initiative
with you.

This represents just a fraction of the pure, concentrated
marvelous-ness we have in store with you Work has already started on
many of the elements that, once combined, will provide the very best
in experience for the membership.

Thank you for your time.

[Camarilla-announce] AMST Vampire OWoD

January 9th, 2010 by g1eagle

After careful consideration, review of all applicants and extensive
discussion and unanimous agreement of the candidate from all
participating NSTs, I am pleased to announce that I have offered the
position of AMST Vampire OWoD to David Bounds. David will be
transitioning out of his current role as AMST ICC and finishing off
business there so will not be making any major announcements or
starting discussions in earnest until he has finished transitioning
that position to me to maintain while I begin my search for an AMST
ICC for the 2010 convention year (stay tuned for an all call in the
coming weeks). David can be reached at amst.vampire.owod [at] gmail [dot] com
for all OWoD Vampire business. Please give David a week or so to
affect that transition and get started into this changing role for the
MST’s office.

Again, I want to thank all the candidates (14 in all) who applied for
the position. If these applicants are any indication, Vampire OWoD
will be a well supported venue from the local level on up.
