Interview with Jake Tessler ANST Awakening

Monday, May 25th, 2009

How drunk where you…. er I mean when you decide to apply for the ANST position?

I’d actually applied in the past, so when the position came open again, I figured it was worth applying. Mage has always been from favorite venue, even back from OWOD days, even if the OWOD Mage MET system drove me batty on occasion.

Tell us a little bit about your home life Jake, we hear your married does your wife game?

I think if my wife didn’t game, I’d be in a lot of trouble for how long I sit in my office doing Camarilla related items. Lana and I actually met through the Cam, by way of a mutual friend of ours. We did the Cammie Long Distance Relationship thing for four years before she moved down after agreeing to marry me.

I actually proposed to her at the ICC / End of OWOD Changeling event. About everyone in the room knew about it beforehand, except for her. Only kept secret in the Cam. If you hunt for it, I’m sure someone has the video of it somewhere.

What do you do for a living beside torturing cammies?

I work in a call center that handles medical benefits. Not, perhaps, the most thrilling work EVER, but if we’re slow, it gives me a large opportunity to answer email and work on Cam related things.

I’m also trying to write a book. :)

When did you join the camarilla?

2001, back in the NPO days.

How is the reset plot coming along resets just around the corner after all? are you finding support from the global staff?

In truth, most of the reset related items are being run by global, so outside of putting in some input here and there, I am not finding it a difficulty.

Are you going to push people towards there local storytellers to fill in the wholes in that plot?
or will there be more support from the national level?

Tim and Derek are doing a really good job with all of it, I think. If there are any holes, I’m sure that either they, or the local storyteller, can fill in any holes. National level focus is going to remain where it is – national level focus. We can expect to see continual national plots as I cycle through the orders, as well as the on-ramping of the national structure setting.

If there is one thing you could change about the current venue what would it be?

The “You’re not the boss of me” syndrome. I believe Nash put it best when he described that the Camarilla is here for role playing and social organization. Running around, killing things, while laughing crazily to earn XP is called “World of Warcraft”. Much like someone wouldn’t sit down to a DnD game and make a party antagonist, I think we, as a global larp, have to allow for a greater society than what wild west style justice can be carved out.

The convocation you ran seemed to be a huge success will we be seeing more events like this take place?

We will, though not a Convocation. As other ideas for special events occur to me, they’ll get run. Part of what keeps things new and entertaining is that we can do unique things. :)

What did you like and dislike about the convocation?

I absolutely loved the amount of role play that occurred. People in scenes until three am is a definite win for me. As for dislike? Well, I’ll admit that agreeing to a five day game was a bit nutty, and by that last day, I was running out of steam. As much as I love all of my players, I was glad when it was over.

where would you like to see the venue when your term ends?

I would like to see the venue drawn together on a national level, and able to put to rest some of the demons from earlier in the chronicle that are continually rehashed.

If you could give every player one piece of advice what would it be?

Don’t play a loner in a Larp setting. Wolverine may be a lone badass, but he also runs in a team with the Xmen. Also, remember that everyone else gets a viewpoint, too. Ok, that was two peices of advice. :)

anything else you care to share with people?

I love this venue. Even still, it is just a game – a thing we do for mental relaxation and as a hobby. If you find yourself stressing out over things, take a break. Don’t answer that email right now, maybe give it an hour or two. Just remember that the person on the other side of that email/phone/etc/ is human, too. Be excellent to each other.

ICC 2009 Logo Contest

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Hello Everyone -

There are many and various talented individuals in the Camarilla capable of
turning mundane materials such as paper, pencil, and paint into incredible
works of art. Well, ICC 2009 in Atlanta, GA needs your help – and we’re
even willing to offer you nifty prizes in return!

We’re asking our more artistically inclined members to design a t-shirt logo
for ICC 2009 and submit it to us for consideration. The person who presents
the winning entry will not only get to see their design all over the
convention, but will receive a free badge for this year’s event (for
themselves or a person of their choosing if they already have a Free ICC
Pass from a previous event) along with a selection of signed books, one
staff t-shirt and one artist goody we can’t mention yet! This contest is
open to any member of the Camarilla in good standing.

As we all know, ICC is “the big one” when it comes to Camarilla conventions,
and not just any logo will do. When designing your entry, please keep the
following criteria in mind:

1) The logo needs to translate well to multiple mediums – program book
printing, t-shirts, web, etc.

2) The logo should not appear completely out of place when presented next to
the Camarilla or White Wolf logos.

3) Although not necessary, logos that reflect the host city (Atlanta, GA)
may score bonus points in the judging.

The deadline for submissions will be midnight on June 15th, 2009. All
entries must be sent in digital format (scan or digital picture) to Ric
Connely (ric at ricbyrne.com ). Entries must include the following:

1) The logo submission in jpeg or tiff formats, 300 DPI. Full Color. Not to
exceed 6×8 inches in size.

2) If your design is too complex for t-shirt printing, please also send a
simplified version suitable in B&W. (Remember our staff shirts are primary

colors)

2) The artist’s name, Camarilla number, and contact information.

3) The following statement: “I state that the attached piece of artwork is
my own original creation.”

So, ladies and gentlemen – start your pencils!

Thanks,

Ric Connely

All-Call – US National Ombudsman

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

To begin I would like to thank Sara Mooney for her work as the second United
States Ombudsman. She notified this council this morning that due to
increasing demands of her current life and work, she cannot dedicate the
time that this position deserves. However, she has agreed to remain in the
post while an election for her replacement is conducted.

When you have the opportunity, please reach out to Sara and thank her for
her hard work over the past year.

***

At this point, I am announcing an all call for National Ombudsman:

The United States National Ombudsman (USNO) is the direct representative of
the membership on the Council and is responsible for communicating with
members and bringing widespread concerns, compliments, and criticisms to the
attention of the US Camarilla Council. Strong personal skills,
organizational ability, communication expertise, patience, reliable access
to email, ability to dedicate large amounts of time, and a willingness to
advocate for the members are all required to excel in this position.

The duties of the national Ombudsman are to be a representative voice of the
membership to the council and advocate for the membership.

The monthly status report is required so that the Camarilla Council and the
regional coordinators know what the USNO is doing. This report is due before
midnight (local time) on the 21st day of the following month. Unless the
USNO chooses to step down and relinquish their position early, a member
serves a two-year term as NO. At the end of this term, a new election is
held, though the same member may apply again. The NO may be removed from
office before their term expires through a referendum, or by a resolution of
the Camarilla Council.

The National Ombudsman is elected by a general vote of the membership. All
members in good standing in the US are eligible to vote in the election. The
election is administered by the Club Director.

Members wishing to submit an application for consideration should include
the following information in an email to clubdirector@white-wolf.com by June
1, 2008. Please cc Pearce Dreadin (pearce@tampabay.rr.com) on those emails.

Name
Camarilla membership number
Contact methods including address
E-mail
Telephone

Vision Statement: What would the applicant wish to do if he or she were in
the office?

Please note any disciplinary actions received within the last year.

Camarilla experience

Relevant Non-Camarilla experience–this may include education, certification
and professional experience.

***

Once the candidate list has been finalized, the information will be shared
with the US Membership as a whole – so they can review, ask questions and
vote. Those process details will be released in June to the US Membership.

Thank you,

Kelley BH

White wolf upgrading server technology

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Here is a email in regards to the community.

Quote ”
Dear Members of the World of Darkness community,

As a community matures, so should the infrastructure and facilities that
support it. We are currently in the process of examining and evaluating
ways to create a modern, technologically sound community destination
for The Camarilla and The Elder Kindred Network. A quick fix would be to
upgrade to a contemporary content management system, but our goal is
to go beyond that. It is important to us that the solution we choose
offers state-of-the-art features and, more importantly, caters specifically
to the needs of our communities. This is a time consuming process, and it
is our intent to keep the community updated on our progress.

We understand that the community as whole is anxious for migration to a
more robust system, and we wish to extend our most sincere thanks to
our volunteers and to the community in general for its continued
understanding.

Sincerely,

Shane K. DeFreest

Can we just settle for a faster server so that the DB can handle the work load? Please?

White wolf store offline for 2 weeks.

Monday, May 11th, 2009

White wolf’s online store will be closed for two weeks starting may 15th and ending on June 1st.

They didn’t realy give many reasons for the closure, but hopefully when the site comes back online it’ll be faster.

You can see the important notice here, but it’s really all really in the first line.
